Who we are and how we work

An independent home for regulator-mapped CPD courses and free planning tools, built for UK healthcare professionals who want to learn properly and record it honestly.

Healthcare Practise UK in one paragraph

Healthcare Practise UK is an independent online CPD and information provider for UK healthcare professionals. We publish short, structured courses on ethics, professionalism, probity, boundaries, communication, records and patient safety, and we build free tools that help you plan revalidation and, if you are facing a concern, organise your own remediation evidence. Courses are bought and taken on our course portal, and each one ends with a certificate of completion issued in the name Healthcare Practise UK.

We cover the professions regulated by nine UK bodies: the GMC, NMC, HCPC, GDC, GPhC, GOC, GOsC, GCC and Social Work England. You can see what each regulator expects on our regulator pages and browse every title in the course catalogue.

What we are not: Healthcare Practise UK is an independent provider. We are not affiliated with, approved by or endorsed by any UK regulator or by the NHS. Nothing on this site is legal advice, and no course, tool or certificate can predict or decide the outcome of a fitness to practise case. Panels and decision makers do that.

Why we built an independent CPD provider for UK registrants

Most online CPD in the UK is sold as a list of certificates. That works for routine learning, but it falls short for a professional who has received a complaint, a letter from their regulator or a request from their appraiser to show what they have learned. Regulators are clear that a certificate on its own proves little.

  • The NMC's fitness to practise library says decision makers look at whether course content is relevant to the concerns in the case and how the learning has been applied in practice, not just whether a course was completed (FTP-16b, updated March 2026).
  • Doctors' cases are decided under the MPTS's Guidance for MPTS tribunals, in force since 24 November 2025, which replaced the earlier sanctions guidance. We describe its approach to insight and remediation only in general terms and link to the current version.
  • Social Work England's impairment and sanctions guidance says decision makers look for objective evidence of insight, not a bare assertion of it.

So we designed the site around that reality. Every course page says which concerns the course addresses and which regulator standards it relates to. Every course includes reflection points and a reflection section alongside a scored assessment, so you leave with material you can write about. And our free tools help you turn learning into a reflection in your own words, a testimonial request and a dated plan.

What you will find here

Courses

More than 40 self-paced courses, from profession-specific ethics and professionalism courses to topic courses such as duty of candour, confidentiality, prescribing and record keeping. Learning hours are taken from each course itself: most are about two hours, a few are three, and the Fitness to Practise course is about four. Prices are shown in pounds sterling and read live from the portal, so the figure you see is the figure you pay.

Bundles and the remediation pathway

For common concerns, such as probity, boundaries or clinical competence, we group relevant courses into packs and explain why each course is in the pack. The remediation pathway walks you from your regulator and concern to a readiness self-check, a recommended set of courses and a reflection plan.

Free tools

A CPD and revalidation tracker for all nine regulators, a reflective statement builder, a testimonial request generator, a hearing timeline planner and a course finder. They run in your browser, store data only on your device and export to PDF or print. See how it all fits together.

What we will never claim

Healthcare professionals reading this site are often anxious, and some are in the middle of an investigation. That makes honesty more important than marketing. These are fixed rules for every page, course and certificate:

  • We do not describe any course as approved by a regulator, and we do not use regulator logos.
  • We do not use third-party certification marks or logos on pages, courses or certificates.
  • We do not promise outcomes. A course supports your reflection and remediation; it does not clear a case.
  • We do not write reflections for you. Our builder gives structure and prompts, and the words stay yours.
  • We do not publish or collect the names of professionals involved in fitness to practise cases.
  • We do not invent reviewers, testimonials or statistics. Where a fact needs checking, we mark it for review rather than guess.

How we keep regulator facts accurate

Regulator rules change: CPD cycles roll over, sanctions guidance is rewritten and deadlines move. We check facts against the regulator's own pages and documents, list those primary sources at the foot of each page, and show the month we last checked them. Our editorial policy sets out the source hierarchy, review cycle and corrections process, and the update log records what changed and when.

Pages are written and maintained by the Healthcare Practise UK editorial team. We have chosen not to display named reviewer boxes; instead, every claim is tied to a source you can open and read yourself.

Our sister site and who to contact

Healthcare Practise UK has a sister site for Canada at ca.healthcarepractise.com, with courses written for Canadian regulators. The two sites share a course portal but are written separately for each country's rules.

For anything about a course, your portal account, a certificate or a refund request, email support@healthcarepractise.com or use the contact page. If you think we have got a fact wrong, please tell us; corrections are handled under our editorial policy and logged publicly.

Frequently asked questions

Is Healthcare Practise UK part of a regulator or the NHS?

No. We are an independent provider. We are not affiliated with, approved by or endorsed by the GMC, NMC, HCPC, GDC, GPhC, GOC, GOsC, GCC, Social Work England or the NHS.

Who writes the content on this site?

The Healthcare Practise UK editorial team. Each page lists the primary regulator sources it relies on and the month those sources were last checked, so you can verify the facts yourself.

Which professions do your courses cover?

Professions regulated by the nine UK bodies: doctors and associates, nurses, midwives and nursing associates, HCPC professions, the dental team, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, optometrists and opticians, osteopaths, chiropractors and social workers in England.

Will a course from you resolve a fitness to practise case?

No course can do that. Regulators look at insight, relevant remediation, reflection and how learning is applied in practice. A course can support that work; the decision belongs to the panel or decision maker.

Where are the courses taken?

On our course portal at portal.healthcarepractise.com, where you create an account, complete the modules and assessment, and download your certificate of completion.

Do you have a site for other countries?

Yes. Our sister site for Canada is ca.healthcarepractise.com. This site covers UK regulators only.

Not sure where to start?

Tell us your regulator and the concern. The pathway shows the courses that fit, helps you write your reflection and puts your evidence in order. It is free and nothing leaves your browser.
