Terms and conditions
The rules for buying and using our courses on the portal and our free browser tools, written in plain English.
About these terms and Healthcare Practise UK
These terms and conditions apply when you use uk.healthcarepractise.com, our free tools, and our course portal, portal.healthcarepractise.com, where courses are bought and taken. By placing an order or using the site you agree to them. Please read them with our privacy policy and refund policy.
Healthcare Practise UK is an independent online CPD and information provider for UK healthcare professionals. We are not affiliated with, approved by or endorsed by any regulator, including the GMC, NMC, HCPC, GDC, GPhC, GOC, GOsC, GCC and Social Work England, or by the NHS.
You can contact us at support@healthcarepractise.com or through the contact page.
Buying courses on the portal
- Courses are sold on the portal in pounds sterling (GBP). The price that applies is the one shown at checkout when you place your order. Prices shown on this site are read from the portal and may change.
- Your contract with us starts when we confirm your order by email. You then get access to the course in your portal account. How it works explains the steps.
- Where we offer a bundle, it is a group of individual courses added to your basket together. Each course in a bundle follows these terms on its own.
- You must give accurate details, including the name you want on your certificates, and keep your login details secure.
Your course licence
When you buy a course, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access it for your own learning and professional development. You may not:
- share your login or let anyone else take a course or assessment for you;
- copy, record, resell, publish or distribute course materials, assessments or answers;
- use course content to build a competing course or product, or to train software on it.
All course content, text, graphics and the design of this site belong to us or our licensors. You may print or save parts of a course for your own study.
Assessments and certificates
Most courses end with an assessment. When you complete a course and pass its assessment, you receive a certificate of completion in the name of Healthcare Practise UK. The certificate records that you completed that course; the learning time shown on it is taken from the course itself.
A certificate is evidence of learning. It is not a qualification, a licence to practise or an endorsement by any regulator. It does not determine or predict the outcome of any complaint, investigation or hearing. Regulators, case examiners and panels decide how much weight to give any evidence, and they generally look for reflection and changes in practice as well as completed courses.
A certificate must only be issued for your own work. We may withdraw a certificate obtained in breach of these terms.
Free tools and information on this site
Our free tools, such as the readiness check, reflective statement builder and timeline planner, are aids to help you organise your own thinking and evidence. They:
- are not legal advice and do not replace advice from your defence organisation, union or a solicitor;
- do not predict any outcome, and a score or plan from a tool says nothing about how your case will be decided;
- keep your entries in your own browser. You are responsible for saving, exporting and checking what you write. We cannot recover entries you clear or lose.
We check information on this site against primary regulator guidance and show the date it was last checked. Guidance changes, so always confirm requirements on your regulator's own website before you rely on them. The reflections and statements you produce must be your own words.
Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the site or portal. That includes trying to gain unauthorised access, introducing malicious code, scraping content in bulk, interfering with other users, or using the services for anything unlawful. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Where we can, we will tell you why first.
Availability and changes to courses
We aim to keep the site and portal available, but there may be interruptions for maintenance or for reasons outside our control. We may update a course to keep it accurate and in line with current guidance. Updates will not take away the core content you paid for. If a change materially affects a course you have bought, contact support and we will discuss your options.
Our responsibility to you
If you are a consumer, you have legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, including that digital content must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality. Nothing in these terms affects those rights.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Otherwise:
- we are not responsible for decisions made by any regulator, employer, panel or other third party;
- we are not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when you placed your order;
- if you use the services for business purposes, we are not liable for loss of profit, business or opportunity, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the course concerned.
Changes to these terms and the law that applies
We may update these terms from time to time. The version in force when you place an order applies to that order. If a term is found to be unenforceable, the rest still apply.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in the courts there. If you have a problem, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I share my course login with a colleague?
No. Each licence is personal to the buyer. Your colleague will need to buy their own course so their certificate reflects their own learning.
Is the certificate recognised by my regulator?
The certificate is a certificate of completion from Healthcare Practise UK, an independent provider. No regulator endorses our courses. Regulators decide how much weight to give any learning, and they usually want to see reflection and changes in practice too.
Will completing a course help me win my case?
Nobody can promise that. Courses can support your reflection and remediation, but panels and case examiners make their own decisions on all the evidence. Take advice from your defence organisation, union or solicitor.
Do I own what I write in the reflective statement builder?
Yes. Your reflections are your own work and stay in your browser. We do not claim any rights in them and cannot see them.
What happens if a course is updated after I buy it?
We update courses to keep them accurate. You keep access to the course. If a change materially affects what you bought, contact support.
Where do I ask about a refund?
See the refund policy. In short, contact support with your order details and we will review your request.
