Independent CPD for UK healthcare professionals
CPD and remediation learning for every UK healthcare professional
Self-paced courses mapped to your regulator's standards, plus free private tools for reflection, CPD tracking and remediation planning.

Healthcare CPD courses in the UK, built around what regulators ask for
Healthcare Practise UK offers healthcare CPD courses for UK professionals who want learning they can actually use: in an appraisal, in a revalidation portfolio, or in a response to a concern raised with their regulator. There are 92 self-paced courses, written for doctors, nurses and midwives, the 15 HCPC professions, the dental team, pharmacy professionals, optometrists and opticians, osteopaths, chiropractors and social workers in England.
Every course is mapped to the standards your own regulator publishes, such as Good medical practice for doctors or the NMC Code for nurses and midwives. Each one ends with a scored assessment and a written reflection, and you receive a certificate of completion when you pass. You can browse the full course catalogue by regulator or by concern, or start with what your regulator expects if you are not sure where to begin.
We are an independent provider. We do not speak for any regulator, and we will never tell you that a course decides the outcome of a case. What we can do is help you learn, reflect honestly and keep a tidy record of what you have done.

Two reasons people come here
Most people arrive with one of two jobs to do. The site is organised so that each group finds its route quickly.
You need CPD for your next appraisal or renewal
Every regulated professional has to keep learning, but the rules differ a great deal. A nurse revalidates with the NMC every three years and needs 35 hours of CPD, 20 of them participatory. A pharmacist submits four CPD records, a peer discussion and a reflective account to the GPhC every year. An optometrist works to a points-based cycle with the GOC, and the HCPC sets no fixed hours at all but audits a sample of each profession at renewal. Our CPD and revalidation tracker holds the rules for all nine regulators in one place and lets you log your learning against them.
For this group, our courses are a straightforward way to cover topics that appraisers and regulators care about: ethics, professionalism, communication, confidentiality, record keeping and candour. Each course is about two hours of reading and activity, a few are three, and the Fitness to Practise course is about four.
You are responding to a complaint or a regulator's concern
If you have had a letter from your regulator, or you are worried that one is coming, the starting point is different. Regulators look for insight, for steps that address the concern, and for evidence that the problem is unlikely to happen again. The free remediation pathway walks you through that in order: what your regulator's guidance says matters, a readiness self-check, courses that match the concern, a structured reflection, and a timeline.
Both groups use the same courses. The difference is in how you use them and what you write afterwards.
What makes learning count as evidence
Regulators are clear that a certificate on its own proves very little. What matters is whether the learning was relevant to the concern, whether you understood it, and whether it changed what you do. The NMC's fitness to practise guidance, for example, says decision makers look at how relevant any training is to the concern and how the nurse or midwife has applied it in practice. Social Work England's impairment and sanctions guidance asks for objective evidence, such as completed training, appraisals and feedback from practice, rather than assertion.
That is why every course here is built the same way:
- Mapped content. Each course names the regulator standards it relates to, so you can explain why you chose it.
- A scored assessment. Most courses end with 15 scenario-based questions and a pass mark of 80%. The Fitness to Practise course has 40 questions.
- A written reflection. The final section asks you to write about what you learned and what you will do differently, in your own words.
- A dated certificate. Issued in the name of Healthcare Practise UK, so you have a record of what you completed and when.
The reflection is the part that carries weight. Our reflective statement builder gives you regulator-specific prompts and checks that you have not included anything that could identify a patient or colleague. It helps you structure your thinking; it does not write the statement for you.
- InsightUnderstanding what went wrong, why, and its effect on others and on trust.
- RemediationPractical steps that address the concern, such as targeted learning and supervised practice.
- ReflectionShowing what you learned and how your practice has changed.

Which course do I need?
Four quick questions that point you to the courses that match your regulator and situation.
Course bundles by concern
Each bundle groups the courses that address one type of concern.
Probity Remediation Pack

Clinical Concerns Pack
7 courses chosen for this concern, in one basket.
Boundaries Pack
6 courses chosen for this concern, in one basket.
How the remediation pathway works
The pathway is free to start and runs in your browser. It has seven steps, and you can move between them and come back at any point.
- Your situation. Pick your regulator, the type of concern (for example probity, clinical competence, boundaries or record keeping) and the stage you are at, from a first complaint through to a review hearing.
- Readiness check. Answer 18 short self-assessment questions based on what regulators publish about insight, remediation, reflection, testimonials, CPD and risk of repetition. You get a list of gaps, not a score that predicts anything.
- Courses. See the courses that address your concern, each with a line explaining why it is there. You can buy them one at a time or together as a bundle, and mark each as planned or completed.
- Reflection. Use prompts that follow the structure your regulator recognises to draft a reflective statement in your own words.
- Testimonials. List the people you will ask and produce a clear request that explains the concern to them.
- Timeline. Enter your key dates and get suggested target dates for each task, working backwards from any deadline.
- Evidence portfolio. Put your readiness summary, courses, reflection, testimonial list and action plan into one document you can print or save.
If you already know which concern you are dealing with, the course bundles by concern show the recommended set for each one and explain why every course is included.
- Your situationYour regulator, the concern and the stage you are at.
- Readiness check18 questions that show your gaps.

Free tools that keep your work private
Alongside the courses there are six free tools: a remediation readiness check, the reflective statement builder, a testimonial request generator, the CPD and revalidation tracker, a hearing timeline planner and a "which course do I need" finder.
They all work the same way. Everything you type stays in your own browser. Nothing is sent to us or stored on our servers, and you can print or save your work as a PDF whenever you like. That matters when you are writing about a complaint or a clinical incident: you stay in control of who sees it.
None of the tools gives legal advice, and none predicts the outcome of a case. They help you organise your own evidence so that you, and anyone advising you, can see clearly what is in place and what is missing.
Nine regulators, nine different sets of rules
UK healthcare regulation is split between nine bodies, and each one writes its own standards, CPD rules and fitness to practise guidance. The table below gives the headline CPD or revalidation requirement for each. The full detail, with links to the regulator's own pages, is on our regulators hub.
| Regulator | Who it regulates | Headline CPD or revalidation rule |
|---|---|---|
| GMC | Doctors, physician associates, anaesthesia associates | Annual appraisal; revalidation usually every five years |
| NMC | Nurses, midwives, nursing associates | Every three years: 35 hours of CPD (20 participatory), five reflective accounts |
| HCPC | 15 professions, from paramedics to psychologists | Renewal every two years; no fixed hours; random audit of 2.5% per profession |
| GDC | Dentists and dental care professionals | Five-year cycle: 100, 75 or 50 hours of verifiable CPD by role |
| GPhC | Pharmacists, pharmacy technicians | Every year: four CPD records, one peer discussion, one reflective account |
| GOC | Optometrists, dispensing and contact lens opticians | 2025 to 2027 cycle: at least 36 points across four domains |
| GOsC | Osteopaths | Three-year cycle: 90 hours, at least 45 learning with others |
| GCC | Chiropractors | Every year: at least 30 hours, 15 or more learning with others |
| Social Work England | Social workers in England | Every registration year: at least two pieces of CPD, one with peer reflection |
Self-paced online learning counts differently under each scheme. The GOC, for instance, limits how much self-directed CPD can count, and our courses are not GOC-approved CPD. The NMC wants 20 of your 35 hours to involve other people. We would rather tell you that up front than have you find out at renewal.
What a course can and cannot do for you
When you are anxious about a case, it is tempting to buy every course that looks relevant and hope that the certificates speak for themselves. They will not, and anyone who tells you otherwise is not being straight with you.
Regulators decide each case on its own facts. They weigh how serious the concern was, what you have understood about it, what you have changed, and whether the public can trust you to practise safely. Some concerns, dishonesty in particular, are harder to put right through training than a gap in knowledge or skills. A well-chosen course is one part of the picture, alongside reflection, supervised practice, audit, feedback and testimonials from people who know your work.
So we try to be useful in a modest way: help you pick learning that fits, help you reflect on it properly, and help you keep the evidence in order. For advice on your own case, please speak to your defence organisation, your union or a solicitor before you send anything to a regulator.
Healthcare Practise UK is an independent education provider. We are not affiliated with, approved or endorsed by the GMC, NMC, HCPC, GDC, GPhC, GOC, GOsC, GCC, Social Work England, MPTS or the PSA. Completing our courses or tools does not guarantee any regulatory outcome. Regulators decide each case on its own facts. Please take advice from your defence organisation, union or a solicitor before submitting anything to a regulator.
How buying and taking a course works
Courses are bought and taken on our course portal. You can add a single course or a whole bundle to your basket and pay in pounds sterling. Prices are shown live from the portal, so the figure you see on a course page is the current one.
Each course is self-paced, so you can work through it around your shifts and other commitments. When you finish the content you take the assessment, and once you pass you receive a certificate of completion to keep with your appraisal or revalidation records.
There is a fuller walk-through, including what happens if something goes wrong with an order, on the how it works page. You can also read who we are and how we work, including how we check our content against regulator guidance and how often we review it.
If this is a difficult time
Being the subject of a complaint or an investigation is stressful, and many professionals say the waiting is the hardest part. You do not have to manage it alone. Your defence organisation or union can advise on the process. In England, NHS Practitioner Health offers confidential support to health professionals (its website explains which professions it covers), and most employers offer an occupational health or staff support service.
If you are struggling, please put your health first. The learning and the paperwork can wait a few days; your wellbeing cannot.
Frequently asked questions
Are these CPD courses recognised by my regulator?
We are independent, and no regulator has approved or endorsed our courses. Each course is mapped to your regulator's published standards so you can explain its relevance, and you receive a dated certificate. Whether and how it counts depends on your regulator's own CPD rules, which are summarised on our regulators hub.
How long does each course take?
Most courses are about two hours of learning, a few are about three, and the Fitness to Practise course is about four. These figures come from the course content itself. Because the courses are self-paced, you can spread them over several sittings.
Will a course help with my fitness to practise case?
It can be part of your evidence, but it does not decide anything. Regulators look at insight, reflection, changes to your practice and the risk of repetition as a whole. A course is most useful when it clearly relates to the concern and you can show what you learned and how you have applied it. Our remediation pathway helps you put those pieces together.
Do the free tools store my information?
No. The tools run in your browser and save only to your own device. Nothing you type is sent to our servers. You can print or save your work as a PDF, and clearing your browser data removes it.
Which professions are the courses for?
Doctors, nurses, midwives and nursing associates, HCPC professions, dentists and dental care professionals, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, optometrists and opticians, osteopaths, chiropractors, and social workers in England. Many courses are cross-professional; others are written for one regulator's standards.
Can I buy several courses at once?
Yes. Each concern has a recommended set of courses on the bundles page, and you can add the whole set to your basket in one step. You can also choose courses individually from the catalogue.
Not sure where to start?
Tell us your regulator and the concern. The pathway shows the courses that fit, helps you write your reflection and puts your evidence in order. It is free and nothing leaves your browser.
