Which course do I need?

Not legal advice, and no outcome prediction. This free tool helps you organise your own thinking and evidence. It does not assess your case or predict what a regulator or panel will decide. Your answers stay in this browser only. Take advice from your defence organisation, union or a solicitor before you submit anything.

Which remediation course do I need? Four questions to find out

If you are asking which remediation course you need, start here. The finder asks up to four questions and then lists the courses that match:

  1. Who is your regulator? GMC, NMC, HCPC, GDC, GPhC, GOC, GOsC, GCC or Social Work England.
  2. Which describes your situation best? A concern has been raised about your practice; you are preparing for a hearing or review; you need CPD or revalidation learning; or you want to strengthen your practice in one area.
  3. What does it relate to? Probity and dishonesty, clinical competence and patient safety, professional boundaries, communication and complaints, record keeping, confidentiality and social media, prescribing, or conduct and public trust.
  4. Where are you in the process? A complaint or local investigation, a letter from your regulator, case examiners or a pending decision, a listed hearing, or a review hearing or restoration.

If you choose CPD, the finder skips the concern and stage questions. If you just want to strengthen one area, it skips the stage question. Your answers are saved in your browser, so the remediation pathway and other tools can pick them up.

How the finder chooses courses

The recommendations come from the topic of each course and the concern it addresses, not from a sales ranking. Each of the eight concerns has a bundle of courses chosen from the course outlines. The finder starts from that bundle and keeps the courses written for your regulator. For probity and for conduct concerns, it also adds the professionalism or ethics course for your profession, because those concerns touch on the standards you are registered against.

For CPD, it suggests the professionalism and ethics courses for your profession and a few widely relevant topics such as communication, confidentiality, duty of candour and professionalism. You will see each course's estimated learning time and live price from the course portal, with a link to add all of them to your basket at once.

Three courses that appear in most remediation results

  • Module on Insight: what insight is, how it is assessed in UK regulation, and how to show it, with an insight action plan.
  • Module on Reflection: reflective models, writing and recording reflection, and turning reflection into insight.
  • Module on Remediation: finding the root cause, building a remediation plan, and evidencing and sustaining change.

They appear so often because regulators look at insight, remediation and reflection together, whatever the original concern.

Insight, remediation and reflection
  1. InsightUnderstanding what went wrong, why, and its effect on others and on trust.
  2. RemediationPractical steps that address the concern, such as targeted learning and supervised practice.
  3. ReflectionShowing what you learned and how your practice has changed.

What the results page gives you next

Under the course list, the finder suggests next steps that fit your answers:

  • a link to start the remediation pathway with your regulator and concern already filled in;
  • the guide to your concern and what your regulator expects;
  • the testimonial request generator if a concern has been raised;
  • the hearing timeline planner if a hearing or review is listed;
  • the CPD and revalidation tracker if you chose CPD.

Before you buy, you can check your readiness with the remediation readiness check. It will show whether your gaps are in learning, reflection, testimonials or CPD. Learning is rarely the only gap.

Courses alone are not enough

A course is one piece of evidence. Regulators look for relevance to the concern, honest reflection, and proof that you have applied the learning in practice. The NMC's guidance on whether a concern has been addressed asks decision makers to consider how relevant any training is. After each course, write a reflection on what you learned and what you now do differently; the reflective statement builder helps you do that in your own words.

Every Healthcare Practise UK course ends with a scored assessment and a certificate of completion you can file as evidence. We are independent and not affiliated with any regulator or the NHS. The finder's suggestions are based on course topics. They are not legal advice and cannot guarantee any outcome. If you have a letter from your regulator, talk to your defence organisation, union or a solicitor about what to submit.

Frequently asked questions

Is the course finder free?

Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up and stores your answers only in your browser.

What is the best course for an NMC referral?

It depends on the concern. Choose the NMC and the concern in the finder. Most results include the Insight, Reflection and Remediation modules alongside courses on the specific topic.

Do I have to buy every course it suggests?

No. You can buy one course or several. The basket button simply adds them all in one step if that suits you.

What if my concern is about my health or a conviction?

The finder does not cover health or conviction cases, which need specialist advice. Speak to your defence organisation, union or a solicitor, and for health support NHS Practitioner Health or your GP.

Are the courses approved by my regulator?

No. Healthcare Practise UK is an independent provider. Regulators do not approve individual courses for remediation; they consider the relevance and quality of your evidence as a whole.

Can I change my answers?

Yes. Use Back to change an answer, or Start again for a fresh set of results.
