CPD courses for healthcare teams, bought once and managed in one place

Healthcare Practise UK offers CPD courses for healthcare teams through a simple credit system. Your organisation buys course credits, one credit covers one course for one staff member, and a manager uses a dashboard in our student portal to add staff, assign courses and see who has finished. The courses cover the professional topics that matter across every UK healthcare setting: confidentiality, communication, record keeping, duty of candour, professional boundaries, dignity and non-discrimination, teamwork, prescribing, and the ethics and professional standards of each regulated profession.

This page explains who the scheme is for, how credits and the manager dashboard work, how to choose courses for each staff group and regulator, and how the completion records can support your own training records. Prices per credit fall as the number of credits rises; see the price table on this page for the current tiers, which are read live from our course portal.

Who team credits are for

Team credits suit any organisation that wants several people to complete professional-standards learning without managing a separate purchase for each person. Typical buyers include:

  • GP practices, for GPs, practice nurses, pharmacists, physician associates and other clinicians who need refreshers on confidentiality, consent, candour and record keeping.
  • Dental practices and groups, for dentists and dental care professionals, with dental ethics and professionalism courses written around the GDC's standards.
  • Community pharmacies and pharmacy groups, for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, including the pharmacy ethics and professionalism courses and the course on prescribing guidance.
  • Care homes and nursing homes, for registered nurses and for managers who want a shared baseline on dignity, communication, confidentiality and documentation.
  • Staffing and locum agencies, which need a consistent way to offer professional-standards learning to clinicians on their books and keep a record of what each person completed.
  • Independent clinics, such as physiotherapy, optometry, osteopathy, chiropractic and aesthetics clinics, where a small team covers several professions.
  • NHS trusts, health boards and larger providers, for departments or programmes that want targeted learning on a particular theme, such as candour or social media, alongside their own mandatory training.

The courses are written for registered UK healthcare professionals and social workers. Many topics, such as dignity, communication and confidentiality, are also useful for support staff, but please check that the course content fits each person's role before you assign it.

How course credits work

The credit model is deliberately simple, so a practice manager can buy and use it without a training budget spreadsheet.

RuleWhat it means for you
1 credit = 1 course for 1 staff memberAssigning a course to a person uses one credit. Two courses for the same person use two credits.
Any of our 92 UK coursesCredits are not tied to a particular course. You choose what each person takes when you assign it.
Minimum order of 10 creditsThe online checkout starts at 10 credits. The price per credit is lower at higher tiers; see the price table on this page.
Up to 199 credits onlineOrders of 10 to 199 credits can be placed directly on the portal.
200 credits or moreEmail hello@healthcarepractise.com and we will set up the order with you.
Valid for 12 monthsEach purchase of credits can be used for 12 months from the date you buy it. The dashboard shows when each batch expires.

At checkout you enter your organisation's name and, if your finance team needs one, a purchase order number. Both appear on the order. The person who buys the credits becomes the team manager in the portal.

For larger orders or to pay by invoice, email hello@healthcarepractise.com.

Setting up your team: from purchase to first course

Most managers can have staff learning on the same day the credits are bought. The steps are:

  1. Buy credits. Choose the number of credits from the price table on this page, enter your organisation name and an optional purchase order number, and pay at checkout.
  2. Open "My team" in the portal. The buyer's portal account gains a team area showing credits available, credits used and expiry dates.
  3. Add your staff. Add people one at a time by name and email, or upload a CSV file with one name and email per line. You can also paste a list.
  4. Staff activate their accounts. New staff receive an email inviting them to set a password for the student portal. People who already have a portal account are simply added to your team.
  5. Assign courses. Choose the staff members and the courses. Each new enrolment uses one credit, and the dashboard shows the cost in credits before you confirm.
  6. Staff learn at their own pace. Courses run online in the portal, so staff can work through them on a shift break, at home or across several sessions. Progress is saved as they go.

If someone leaves, you can remove them from your team. They keep any course already assigned to them, so the credit is not lost to them part-way through.

What the manager dashboard shows

The team dashboard is designed to answer the questions managers are asked at appraisal time and inspection time: who has done what, and when.

  • Credit balance: each batch of credits you bought, how many are used and left, and when the batch expires.
  • Staff list: everyone in your team, with the option to add or remove people.
  • Progress by person and course: whether each assigned course is not started, in progress or completed.
  • Completion dates: the date each staff member completed each course.
  • Certificate issued: confirmation that a certificate of completion was issued for that course. Each staff member downloads their own certificate from their portal account.
  • CSV export: download the progress records as a CSV file to keep in your own training matrix or HR system.

You can filter the progress list to find, for example, everyone who has not yet finished a particular course, and follow up before a deadline.

Choosing courses by staff group and regulator

Credits work with any of our 92 UK courses, so you can mix shared topics with profession-specific ones. A practical approach is to pick one or two shared courses for the whole team, then add the ethics or professionalism course written for each person's regulator. The table gives starting points; the full course catalogue lets you filter by regulator.

Staff group (regulator)Profession-specific coursesShared topics that often fit
Doctors and GPs (GMC)Ethics and Ethical Standards for Doctors; Professionalism and Professional Standards for DoctorsDuty of candour, confidentiality, record keeping, safe prescribing
Nurses and midwives (NMC)Ethics and Ethical Standards for Nurses and Midwives; Professionalism and Professional Standards for Nurses and MidwivesDignity and non-discrimination, communication, record keeping, reflection

Social workers (Social Work England)Ethics and Professionalism courses for social workersReflection, teamwork, social media

For a whole-team theme, the Professionalism for Healthcare Professionals course and Ensuring Confidentiality in Healthcare Practice work across every profession and are a common first assignment. Our regulator guides summarise what each regulator expects from registrants, which helps when you are matching courses to roles.

Most courses take about two hours; a few take three or four. Each one ends with a scored assessment and a written reflection, and the learner receives a certificate of completion in the name of Healthcare Practise UK when they pass.

Using completion records for appraisal, revalidation and training evidence

A course certificate and a dated completion record are useful pieces of evidence, but they are only one part of what appraisers, revalidation processes and inspectors look at. Used well, the records from your dashboard can support three things.

Individual appraisal and revalidation

Each registrant is personally responsible for their own CPD and revalidation. Nurses and midwives, for example, record CPD and written reflective accounts for NMC revalidation, doctors bring supporting information to their annual appraisal, and HCPC registrants keep a continuous record of CPD and may be asked for a profile showing how it improved their practice and benefited service users. A certificate from one of our courses, together with the reflection the person writes afterwards, can be part of that record. It does not replace the regulator's own requirements.

Your organisation's training records

The CSV export gives you a dated list of who completed which course. You can add it to your training matrix to show that staff have had learning on topics such as candour, confidentiality and record keeping. In England, the CQC's Regulation 18 requires providers to make sure staff receive appropriate support, training, professional development, supervision and appraisal; a clear training record is one way to show what learning you have provided. How inspectors weigh that evidence is for them to decide.

Responding to a concern or learning event

After a complaint, an incident or a change in guidance, a manager can assign a targeted course to the people involved, or to the whole team, and keep a record of when it was completed. If an individual registrant is facing a regulatory concern, they may need a wider plan; the concern-based course packs and our free tools are designed for that situation.

The how it works page explains the learner's experience in the portal step by step, which is useful to share with staff before you assign their first course.

Getting the most from team learning

  • Explain why. Tell staff why a course has been assigned and what you hope it will change. Learning lands better when it is linked to something real in your service.
  • Set a sensible deadline. Give people a few weeks rather than a few days, and remember that credits are valid for 12 months from purchase.
  • Use the reflection. Each course ends with a written reflection. Invite staff to bring a short, anonymised version to supervision or a team meeting.
  • Keep privacy in mind. Staff should never include patient names, dates of birth, NHS numbers or other identifying details in reflections they share.
  • Review at appraisal. Use the completion date and certificate as a prompt for a conversation about how the learning has been applied.
  • Plan the next round. Check expiry dates on the dashboard so unused credits are assigned before they lapse.

Individuals who want to build a fuller reflective record can also use our free and portal tools, including a reflective statement builder and a CPD and revalidation tracker.

An independent provider

We are an independent online CPD provider. Our courses are written around the published standards of each UK regulator, and each page lists the regulator sources we checked, but no regulator, the CQC or the NHS has reviewed or signed off our courses. We do not claim that completing them meets any specific statutory, mandatory or revalidation requirement. If your organisation has its own mandatory training framework, use our courses alongside it.

Healthcare Practise UK is an independent online CPD and information provider. We are not affiliated with, approved or endorsed by the NHS, the CQC or any UK healthcare or social work regulator. A certificate of completion shows that a staff member finished one of our courses; it is not a regulator qualification, and each registrant remains responsible for meeting their own regulator's CPD and revalidation requirements.

Frequently asked questions

What is a course credit?

One credit lets one staff member take one course. If you assign three courses to the same person, that uses three credits. Credits can be used for any of our 92 UK courses.

How many credits do I need to buy?

The minimum order is 10 credits, and you can buy up to 199 online. For 200 credits or more, email hello@healthcarepractise.com. The price per credit falls at higher tiers; see the price table on this page.

How long do credits last?

Each purchase of credits is valid for 12 months from the date you buy it. The dashboard shows each batch's expiry date so you can assign unused credits in time.

Can we pay by invoice or purchase order?

You can add a purchase order number at checkout so it appears on the order. For larger orders or to pay by invoice, email hello@healthcarepractise.com.

How do staff get access?

The manager adds staff by name and email, one at a time or by CSV upload. New staff receive an email to set a password for the student portal, then see their assigned courses when they sign in.

Can I see staff progress and certificates?

Yes. The dashboard shows each person's progress, the date they completed each course and whether a certificate was issued. You can export the records as a CSV file. Staff download their own certificates from their portal account.

What happens if a staff member leaves?

You can remove them from your team. They keep the courses already assigned to them, so any learning in progress is not lost.

Will these courses meet our CQC or mandatory training requirements?

We are an independent provider and do not claim that our courses meet any specific mandatory or regulatory requirement. Completion records can form part of your training evidence alongside your own mandatory training programme.

Not sure where to start?

Tell us your regulator and the concern. The pathway shows the courses that fit, helps you write your reflection and puts your evidence in order. It is free and nothing leaves your browser.
