How it works
How Healthcare Practise UK works
Choose a course, buy it on our course portal, study at your own pace, pass the assessment and download your certificate of completion.

How our online CPD courses work, in 4 steps
Here is how our online CPD courses work, from choosing a course to filing your certificate. Healthcare Practise UK is an independent online CPD provider for UK healthcare professionals. Every course is self-paced and taken on our course portal, portal.healthcarepractise.com, and ends with a scored assessment and a certificate of completion.
- Choose. Browse the course catalogue by regulator or concern, or use a course bundle if you need several courses for one type of concern.
- Buy on the portal. The buy button adds the course to your basket on the portal. You pay in pounds sterling by card, and your account gives you access to the course.
- Study and reflect. Work through the modules in your own time, then write a short reflective account at the end.
- Pass and download. Complete the assessment and download your certificate of completion in the name of Healthcare Practise UK.
- PlanIdentify what you need to learn for your practice.
- LearnCourses, reading, supervision and learning with others.
- ReflectWhat changed in your thinking and why it matters.
- ApplyUse the learning with patients or service users.
- RecordKeep evidence in the format your regulator asks for.
What a course looks like
Each course is a structured online module written for UK practice. Most have six to nine sections, and each section is split into short lessons. You will find:
- plain-English teaching linked to the standards of the UK regulators, such as the NMC Code, Good medical practice or the HCPC standards of conduct, performance and ethics;
- case illustrations and worked examples from UK healthcare settings;
- pause-and-reflect points to help you relate the material to your own practice;
- a final reflection section with a written reflective account you can keep for your CPD record.
Learning time
Each course states its estimated learning time, including reflection and the assessment. Most take about two hours. A few longer courses take about three hours, and the Fitness to Practise course takes about four. These are estimates; take as long as you need.
The assessment
Most courses end with 15 scenario-based multiple-choice questions, and the pass mark is 12 out of 15 (80%). The Fitness to Practise course has 40 scenario-based questions, also with an 80% pass mark. If you do not pass first time, the course points you back to the sections linked to the questions you missed, and you can try again.
Your certificate of completion
When you pass, you can download a certificate of completion issued by Healthcare Practise UK. It shows that you completed the course and passed its assessment. Keep it with your reflective account in your CPD record, appraisal portfolio or evidence bundle.
Our courses are not approved by any regulator, and the certificate does not claim they are. Most UK regulators let you choose relevant learning for your CPD. Some have specific rules, so check yours. For example, the GOC accepts self-directed CPD only if at least 18 points come from GOC CPD providers, and our courses are not GOC-approved CPD.
If you are preparing evidence for a fitness to practise case, a certificate shows what you studied and when. Panels also look for reflection and for evidence that you have applied the learning in your practice, so file each certificate with a short reflection on what you now do differently.
Buying several courses together
Our course bundles group the courses that address one type of concern, such as probity, professional boundaries or record keeping. One button adds the whole bundle to your basket on the portal, and you can remove any course you do not need before you pay. Prices are shown live from the portal, so the price you see on this site matches the basket.
Not sure what you need? Our free tools include a course finder, a remediation readiness check, a reflective statement builder and a CPD tracker. They run in your browser and keep your information on your own device.
What a course can and cannot do
A course can give you structured, relevant learning, a framework for reflection and a dated certificate. It cannot decide your case, and it is no substitute for advice from your defence organisation, union or a solicitor. Regulators and panels make their own decisions on all the evidence in front of them. We never promise an outcome.
We are independent and not affiliated with the GMC, NMC, HCPC, GDC, GPhC, GOC, GOsC, GCC, Social Work England or the NHS.
